Sourced from our recent trip to Peru. We were extremely fortunate to visit Joel Marin & Maximo Rupay while traveling throughout the Cajamarca region.
This beautiful coffee is a community lot comprising of a washed processed Bourbon, from both Joel & Maximo.
Joel has built a coffee project rooted in family, perseverance, and quality. Together with his wife, Elizabeth Ortiz de la Cruz, Joel runs Finca La Palma, named after the palm trees that grow on the land and the locality they proudly call home. I could really relate to Joel’s vision for his coffee & family which led us to commit to buying this coffee & a 100% natural Marshell varietal which scored very highly at our cupping ( this variety gained global attention after winning the 2019 Peru Cup of Excellence with a score of over 92 ). This coffee is currently being milled at origin and will be available in the new year.
The first farm we visited in Peru was Finca Las Guabas. Maximo Rupay has been producing coffee since 2013. Before this, he used to produce all types of beans on the farm. However, they were not very profitable by producing and selling beans, they weren't receiving enough income to sustain the family and improve their living conditions. That was when Maximo discovered specialty coffee.
Maximo was such an amazing host who welcomed us to his farm & family home. This is a family business, working together with his father, mother, and brothers.
WCC are invested in traceability & a commitment to providing a liveable income for our producers. Specialty coffee should create more than great cups. It should create better outcomes for producers, more responsible practices for the planet and long-term performance across the supply chain.
