Cooperativa Aljiri is a cooperative of small producers in Caranavi, founded in 2022. It is made up of 19 contributing farms. Since their foundation, their main pillar has been to improve the quality of life of their families.
Across the farms, they maintain soil fertility through the use of organic fertilizers, such as coffee husks, and an agroforestry system within the coffee plantations, which benefits the soil through the leaf litter provided by the trees. The use of agrochemicals on both the soil and the foliage is avoided. Coffee is harvested by hand, only picking mature cherries. It is then Washed processed with clean water.
The community of Collasuyo is located in one of the highest parts of Caranavi, and the majority of its population produces coffee. Cooperativa Aljiri was created by 19 producers out of the need to reach buyers looking for their high-quality specialty coffee. As a group, the cooperative's producers continue to expand both their production and their quality. It is their goal to increase production in terms of both quantity and variety.
Cooperativa Aljiri stands out for its gender-focused approach through the "Matriarcas: Un Café con Igualdad" project, which seeks to empower women producers. In addition, they are implementing plans for crop expansion, the acquisition of new land, and the renovation of coffee plantations using differentiated varieties, all under sustainable practices and environmental conservation measures.
